SMH Traveller Awards: 10 of the Greatest Innovations in Travel

Aug 29, 2024

Bullo River Station has been recognised by the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) Traveller Awards as one of the top ten greatest innovations in travel, lauded for its groundbreaking integration of innovative land management practices with a five-star tourism experience. This prestigious award honours the visionary tourism initiatives and operators whose creativity and dedication are elevating industry standards and redefining what travel can be.

Bullo River Station, spanning 400,000 acres of privately owned land at the confluence of the Bullo and Victoria rivers in the East Kimberley region of the Northern Territory, near the Western Australian border, is a working cattle station dedicated to balancing best practice pastoral work with a strong commitment to environmental conservation.

“A 162,000 hectare cattle station in the far north-western corner of Northern Territory may not be where you’d expect to see a trailblazing approach to introduce innovative land management tactics alongside a five-star tourism experience.”

In its inaugural year, the Sydney Morning Herald Traveller Awards celebrate 120 places, people, and experiences that have captured the hearts and imaginations of seasoned writers and editors, drawing from a year of globetrotting. They have carefully selected their favourites across 12 distinct categories, recognising excellence in everything from innovation to changemaking and style leadership. Within these selections, you’ll discover immersive experiences, affordable getaways, cutting-edge wellness retreats, and the most exhilarating adventures.
