Birdwatching

Australia is home to an extraordinary variety of birds, the majority of the world’s species have an Australian ancestry, shaped through the geological evolution of our continent. There is currently estimated to be 828 bird species in Australia, 45% of which are endemic. It is then, no surprise that Australia is one of the most enticing of destinations when it comes to bird watching experiences. Ornithologists, Birders, Twitchers and Field Naturalists alike have long been captivated by Australian species along with the opportunity to observe them in their natural habitats, with many dedicated to the conservation and study of Australian native and migratory birds.

Our luxury lodges and camps are situated in some of Australia’s most inspiring and extraordinary locations. Boasting picturesque and diverse habitats - including tropical rainforests, coral reefs, coastal heaths, wetlands and swamps, grasslands, sandy and stony deserts and Eucalypt woodlands. The habitats are home to equally diverse birdlife; from the mesmerising colours of the Gouldian Finch, Eclectus Parrot and Splendid Fairy-wren, to the camouflage of a Tawny Frogmouth, it is little wonder Australia is recognised around the world as a birdwatcher’s paradise.

Guests have opportunities for exclusive and private birdwatching tours and photography expeditions, camp out in a purpose-built wildlife hide with camera and binoculars or join a knowledgeable and passionate field guide or specialist or participate in activities and research projects that have a real and positive impact on the conservation of our birds.
