The Australian landscape today is a map of the spirits’ journeys and stories handed down through the generations often through song and dance. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander hosts and guides are keen to share their stories and give an insight into their cultures, which is often delivered with an engaging humour and deeply moving perspective.

What will I do there?

  • Ernabella Arts – visit the closed community in the APY Lands to meet the Anangu artists and gain insight into the techniques and ancient stories which form the basis of their artworks and understand the Indigenous symbols used to depict their Tjukurpa (sacred stories of Country and lore), providing inspiration to create your own ceramic tile to take home.
  • A guided base walk around Uluru reveals Aboriginal creation stories depicting how the rock was formed at the beginning of time by ancestral beings.
  • Wander through the Cultural Centre and learn about the people of the desert, and unique history of the dual World Heritage listed National Park.

2 Bamurru Plains Top End, Northern Territory

Bamurru Plains is an extraordinary experience, on the Mary River floodplains in Australia’s Top End. Just a short hop by light aircraft across the river systems that separate Bamurru Plains from Kakadu National Park brings you to the Aboriginal heartland of Stone Country. Rock art galleries reveal stories of Aboriginal peoples and their continuing culture. Textures of colours, vistas across savannah woodlands and floodplains provide a sense of the spirituality of this ancient landscape.

What will I do there?

  • Take a scenic flight into Kakadu, bush picnic lunch and spend time with an Aboriginal guide on the waters of the East Alligator River before returningoverland, with a stop at the Bowali Visitor Centre, in time for sundowner drinks,canap es and the comfort of the lodge as the sun sets over Bamurru Plains.
  •  Learn of Aboriginal uses for the various plants and animals on Bamurru or how to track wildlife through the forest on a guided safari walk with a Field Guide.
  • Airboat Experience – take an exhilarating trip out on the floodplain wetlands.
