Wellness, wellbeing, and well, (just) life…
| Yes, just life. From buzzword to life force, our wellbeing permeates everything and is permeated by everything. Our health is our most valuable asset. Too often, a non-renewable one… As we live longer, and travel further, for longer, how we travel is so important. For travellers, navigating wellness options to find the one that is right for them, is no small feat these days. Connection with nature… can it be as simple as that? Our understanding that our ability to be ‘well’ is closely aligned to the wellbeing of the planet has sharpened. We know that our health and wellbeing are influenced by aspects of our lives that go beyond the bricks and mortar of the spa (although we never say no to a good massage). What we breathe, eat, think, absorb, shapes us (literally). And so many paths to good health end at nature’s door. Yet at the same time, we have to work harder to connect with (and protect) nature. The locations of our lodges are no accident. These are places chosen for their inherent connection to nature, and rare access to distinctively Australian landscapes. There is a deep sense of satisfaction, and even wellbeing, that comes from having a personal positive impact on these places through the act of travel. Well lives lived longer The concept of wellness and how it is relevant to the stages of our lives, to our physical, emotional, mental, spiritual wellbeing, is constantly evolving. From awareness of body, image, health and celebrating youthfulness, to the growing number of people of all ages for whom wellness has been given a shake up through chronic or life-threatening disease, stress, menopause, mental exhaustion. An extra 20-30 years not being ‘well’ is not a very appealing prospect. We want to be active, curious, and importantly, relevant. The concept of ‘retirement’ and the way we view it has changed radically. 60 is the new 40, 70 the new 50… Travel is one of the great fillers (no pun intended) for enriching lives that are on average, significantly longer and more active now than they were.  Decisions, decisions, decisions… the pressure of time Bizarrely, as we have more time in life years, we seem to have far less of it in daily life. Travel is often viewed as the circuit breaker. But the decisions involved in creating the perfect trip are often overwhelming. The all-inclusive nature of an Australian luxury lodge stay takes care of all that. Wrapped in the warm hug of hospitality, exploring epic locations, the stimulation of connection with people of the place, the seduction of discovery and difference. The impact of travel on all in the travel ecosystem… Our desire for independence, freedom, maintaining our health, sense of relevance and purpose is something we often have to work harder for. This seeking of purpose is stimulating the desire for travel that is less extractive, goes beyond the momentary buzz, and is all the more rewarding because of our engagement with nature and cultures, enriching ourselves and those we visit. Travel can be a powerful restorative not just for the traveller but for the people and places visited.
