To encounter the native birdlife in their natural habitat is a special thing. Spinifex grass, mulga trees, desert she-oaks and other hardy plant species provide food and shelter for an abundance of birds.
78 species of bird have been recorded in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, including several rare species such as the scarlet-chested parrot, the striated grasswren and the grey honeyeater. Hawks, Australian kestrels and falcons soar above the rocky habitats or ‘puli’ of Uluru and Kata Tjuta and live amongst the plants growing at their bases.
