Bloomberg has complied a list of old-growth trees so inspiring they’re worth building a trip around and unsurprisingly, Silky Oaks Lodge and the 180 million year old The Daintree rainforest are top tier. The Daintree in Far North Queensland is the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest on the Australian continent and 3 times older than the Amazon rainforest.

“The world’s oldest tropical rainforest sits on Queensland’s northeast coast. The Kuku Yalanji people, who are known as expert navigators of the dense jungle, have lived here for centuries. Other residents include saltwater crocodiles, the elusive Bennett’s tree-kangaroo, and more than 400 species of birds.”

“..Make your base the Silky Oaks Lodge, where its 40 luxury treehouses are set to reopen in October following a multimillion-dollar renovation. From there, it’s only a 20-minute drive to the beach town of Port Douglas, the gateway to the northernmost part of the Great Barrier Reef.” – Jennifer Flowers, Bloomberg.
