Friends and industry colleagues of Southern Ocean Lodge have come together on Kangaroo Island to help remove remaining bush in a series of working bees called ‘Camp SOL’, led by dedicated Lodge Managers John Hird and Alison Heath. As part of the cathartic regeneration process, a small greenhouse has been built onsite at Southern Ocean Lodge to propagate seeds and cuttings from local native coastal species including salt bush, pig face and myoporum boobialla, the goal being to create a a living, low-flammable carpet of coastal heath along the undulating clifftops.
The latest shots tracking the progress of Camp SOL, documented by Adelaide-based filmmaker Paul Ryan of 57 Films, can be seen here: https://vimeo.com/571535032.
