Bamurru Plains is Australia’s answer to the Okavango Delta. With the end of the wet season Bamurru Plains, a Wild Bush Luxury camp located on the Mary River floodplain in Australia’s Top End re-opens from May to October. Dominated by the climatic extremes of the tropical monsoon, the wetlands and savannah woodlands that fringe the coastal regions between Darwin and Kakadu National Park the floodplains of the Mary River catchment form one of the most significant ecosystems in Australia. The ten room camp exudes ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ ensuring that guests are introduced to the sights and sounds of the environment – shared with just 20 guests. This is the setting for a mesmerising wilderness and unique bird and wildlife experiences. The camp is open from 1st May to 31st October.
Bamurru Plains offers one of Australia’s richest wildlife experiences: tens of thousands of magpie geese mingle with kites, egrets, herons and buffalo on the floodplain. Kookaburras, parrots, cockatoos and Agile Wallabies inhabit the fringing woodlands. Bamurru’s expert guides offer airboat trips on the floodplains, cruises on the Sampan River (April to October), safaris by open-top 4WD vehicles, fishing trips, excursions to the rock art galleries of Arnhem Land and crocodile-spotting river cruises. Wake to the call of magpie geese and watch the parade of wildlife emerge from the comfort of your bed. Spot wildlife in the treetops from the camp’s ‘hide’, and sit back with a sundowner and enjoy the soft ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ touches. Bamurru Plains lodge and 300km2 of surrounding country are exclusively for in-house guests, assuring a quiet, privileged Australian experience.
