The Good Food Guide, the go-to listing for foodies – in fact anyone who loves dining out – has broadened its scope from Australia’s east coast for the first time this year to seek out the must-dining destinations across the nation. The Good Food Guide team of reviewers award a scale of ‘chefs hats’ to the best restaurants, where a three-hatted restaurant is the highest ranking. To achieve a hat is a pinnacle of a chef’s career and a restaurant’s history, with the term “hatted” becoming embedded in the Australian lexicon.
The Lake House – Two Chef Hats
Scoring a high-ranking two hats and a score of 17.5 from a possible 20, The Lake House at Daylesford is placed in the Top 5 restaurants in the state of Victoria. As the 2018 review states, an aperitivo on the terrace overlooking the lake is ‘the perfect drumroll to food that paints a portrait of the region with quality ingredients and precise cooking, something owner/legend Alla Wolf-Tasker has been doing for more than 30 years.’ Renowned for its 40-page drinks list, fine menu showcasing local produce and assured service, the Lake House is ‘a dining experience perfectly attuned to place and escape.’
