Amidst the rugged beauty of the outback, Mt Mulligan Lodge stands as a beacon for those seeking an authentic Australian experience. Spanning over 28,000 hectares of untamed wilderness in Northern Outback Queensland, this vast expanse of land plays host to a thriving community of over 2,500 cattle, each contributing to the rich tapestry of pastoral history woven into the fabric of the region.

For those eager to immerse themselves in the timeless tradition of the Australian outback, Mt Mulligan Lodge offers a unique opportunity: The Cattle Muster occurring between the 12th and 16th April 2024. Led by the seasoned expertise of station manager Phil and his dedicated team, the cattle muster is a cornerstone event, occurring around three times a year. It’s a spectacle that not only showcases the sheer magnitude of the property but also highlights the symbiotic relationship between man and beast in this remote corner of the world.

The star attractions of this grand spectacle are the Brahman cattle, majestic creatures that roam freely across the vast expanse of the station. With their distinctive humps and gentle demeanour, these resilient animals embody the spirit of the outback, thriving in an environment where only the strongest survive. The process of mustering these noble cattle is as much an art as it is a science. Utilising a diverse array of tools ranging from horseback riding to quad bikes and even the occasional helicopter, Phil and his team embark on a journey across the sprawling landscape, herding the Brahman cattle from all corners of the property. It’s a delicate ballet of coordination and skill, where each member plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of the muster.

For guests of Mt Mulligan Lodge, the cattle muster offers a rare glimpse into a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for generations. Half and full-day tours provide an opportunity to witness the muster firsthand, offering insights into the day-to-day operations of the station and the intricate dance between man and beast that defines life in the outback.
