A fresh new way of thinking to come out of the post pandemic restrictions has resulted in a shore dive experience offered at Lizard Island. Due to limited numbers of guests allowed on the boats at any one time, this new dive activity has been introduced to allow guests to walk straight in off the beach and venture onto the fringing reef around the island. Makes perfect sense!

For those underwater lovers seeking reef expeditions further afield or looking to dust off the BCD and brush up on their diving skills, Lizard Island offer a range of dive options suitable for all levels of expertise. The true privilege of place here is the exclusive access to some of the best dive sights in the world, so guests can best appreciate the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.

Inner Reef – Half Day | 8.30am – 11.00am | This excursion departs from the Beach Club and takes guests to either the near-by continental islands boasting their own unique fringe reefs, or to patch reefs -consisting entirely of coral. The experienced marine team is passionate and educated about the Great Barrier Reef in all its diversity and uniqueness and provide a thorough briefing and commentary en route. 

Outer Reef – Full Day | 8.30am – approximately 4:00pm | On this excursion you will explore two equally incredible dive sites on the outer ribbon reefs, including the world renowned Cod Hole ensuring ample bottom time. Of course the hunger is real after a long dive – lunch and snacks are provided!

Private Charters The ultimate in luxury and privacy. Designed to provide the perfect platform for diving and snorkelling, a private charter can also include fishing or simply sightseeing . 

Refresher Dive If it’s been a while and you have not recently dived (in 12 months or more), Lizard Island offer a complimentary refresher course on the beach before guests head out for their first dive. The expert marine team will be on hand to assist with any questions or guidance to ensure the getting back in the water is seamless.

Discover Scuba Diving Designed for those with no prior experience who want to dip their toes in without committing to a full course. Guests will undertake a classroom session, have their dive equipment professionally fitted and enjoy a supervised shore dive with a qualified instructor.

PADI Dive Courses The PADI referral course is for those guests who have completed all theory and practical application for diving. A minimum of 4 nights at Lizard Island is recommended for participants to complete the course and christen their log book. 

Remember, no Diving 24 hours before flying. Please be advised that safety regulations require that divers are not permitted to fly for a minimum of 24 hours after their last dive. As most guests will fly to and from the island, this is critical for planning the trip. Terms and conditions, minimum age and medical and weather conditions apply. Pre-bookings are essential for private charters and PADI courses.

All of the Lizard Island dive sites are under protection of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
