Australia’s Best Regional Hotel & Australia’s Best Hotel Restaurant
The inaugural Hotel Guide was launched in June, featuring Australia’s 50 finest hotels. Gourmet Traveller then invited readers to vote in 5 categories including Australia’s Best Regional Hotel and Australia’s Best Hotel Restaurant – nominating Lake House as their favourite in both categories.
The crew at Lake House are celebrating 30 years at the iconic property. In 1984 Alla & Allan Wolf Tasker, dreaming a seemingly impossible dream, opened the doors of Lake House in Daylesford (80 mins from Melbourne). Thirty years later, they, their daughter Larissa and a dedicated “tribe” of industry professionals continue to spread joy and pleasure with their unique and timeless sense of hospitality.

The creation of Lake House is a story that ignites passion and excitement. At the helm is Culinary Director Alla Wolf-Tasker AM, who apart from her responsibilities at Lake House, is also well known for her passion and advocacy on behalf of the Australian food and wine industry. Active within the areas of Culinary Tourism, the promotion of good food and sustainable agriculture and serving on many boards and committees, Alla is a sought after speaker and participant in various international festivals and events. As recently as November 2013 she cooked at James Beard House in NYC for the opening event of Tourism Australia’s “Restaurant Australia” program. In 2014 she is a key speaker at the prestigious International Design Week in Melbourne and has just been appointed on the board of Luxury Lodges of Australia.
