Wild Bush Luxury properties Arkaba Homestead in the Flinders Ranges, and Bamurru Plains in Kakadu’s Top End have both been recognised in Signature Travel’s Top 25 Conservation Experiences. The list comprises of signature travel experiences from around the globe that offer some of the most incredible programs and opportunities for travellers to give back.

Gliding across the floodplain wetlands of the Mary River catchment on an Airboat Safari, guests have an opportunity to spot crocodiles slowly swimming amongst the grasses and watch, undisturbed, many of the hundreds of bird species that make Kakadu home. The ten free-standing safari bungalows and the purpose-built wildlife hide at Bamurru Plains yield minimal environmental impact. Additionally, for every guest that stays, a donation is made to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy.

“Through learning about the different elements that make up the natural and cultural environment here at Bamurru, our guests gain an understanding of the delicate balance – the fragility – of the ecosystem, and why our actions as humans matter,” explains Charlie Carlow, founder of Wild Bush Luxury.

Since 2009 Wild Bush Luxury’s dedicated team has transformed Arkaba Station in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia from an ecologically-degraded sheep station into a 60,000-acre thriving private wildlife conservancy. Guests at the luxury safari homestead can join biologists as they conduct research and help set up monitoring stations for mammal surveys. Furthermore, the Native Garden Rewilding Project encourages the growth of semi-arid plants, critical to endangered species.

Owner and founder of both Arkaba Homestead and Bamurru Plains, Charlie Carlow has strongly held the belief that “tourism should help foster conservation of our natural and cultural heritage.”

The sustainability ethos behind both luxury properties provoke, inspire and reconnect guests to the bush through experiences that are exclusive, natural and quintessentially Australian – a philosophy that guides everything they do.

“The prime motivation behind what we do is to open the hearts and minds of our guests through the activities our guides conduct within this incredible environment, for our guests to reconnect with the land and see the landscape in a new light, with deeper understanding.” – Charlie Carlow, Wild Bush Luxury.
