Tourism Tasmania reports homegrown airline Virgin Australia will be flying a new route to Tasmania for the first time in over 20 years. Direct flights between Launceston and Adelaide will operate 3 times per week, giving South Australians and Tasmanians direct connectivity to interstate destinations, providing more opportunity to explore world-renown and remote regions such as Freycinet Peninsula, Barossa Valley, Ikara – Flinders Ranges and Kangaroo Island.
“We’re the first airline to operate the flights in more than 20 years, so it’s a great day for the regions and Virgin Australia as we plug the gap. Up to 4,200 passengers each month will benefit from the ease of the direct services, creating a gateway between some of the best food and wine, culture, and natural wonders in Australia.” – Alistair Hartley, Virgin Australia’s Group Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer.
