The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious awards recognising excellence in the travel industry.

Four Luxury Lodges of Australia members have been acknowledged in this year’s Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, featuring in the top twenty-five resorts in the Australia Pacific region.

Capella Lodge on World Heritage-listed Lord Howe Island was voted top Australian resort in the category, with qualia on Hamilton Island, Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley in the greater Blue Mountains and Lizard Island, the northernmost island on the Great Barrier Reef also listed.

The 2020 awards received more than 715,000 responses from Condé Nast Traveler readers across the globe who voted for their favourite travel destinations and experiences.

Luxury Lodges of Australia Executive Officer Penny Rafferty said the recognition for the Australian lodges in The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards was especially meaningful in a year where restricted movement made travel memories even more precious and poignant. “It’s heartening to see the luxury lodges remain top of mind for travellers from around the world. As our state borders start to reopen, we’re already seeing strong demand from our Australian travellers, and we are looking forward to the return of our international guests as soon as global travel is safe and possible,” Ms Rafferty said.

“The lodges offer guests a personal connection to each destination, with first-hand experiences of our diverse landscapes and wildlife, regionally-crafted food and drink, and an understanding of our local culture and communities. These all combine to create a very real and very Australian experience of place.”

“When the world mobilises again, an increasing number of travellers and so many of our lodge guests will actively seek experiences that allow them to have positive impact while travelling. Positive impact is recognised as a fundamental part of the luxury and privilege of travel.”

“Our guests are interested in and want to be aware of not just sustainable tourism best practices and sustainable operations, but to know that their visit is an active contributor to environmental preservation and regeneration, and to the enrichment of local communities and cultures.”

“Purpose and positive impact is at the core of what it means to be a Luxury Lodges of Australia member, from leadership in conservation and environmental sustainability to engagement with indigenous and remote local communities, along with the ‘makers’, skilled craftspeople local to each region. Essential is the support of hundreds of local food and beverage producers and economic empowerment of regional communities through the highest quality sustainable tourism.”
