Undisputedly one of the most unique and beautiful places in the world, World Heritage-listed Lord Howe Island is made up of 75% protected park preserve, encompassed in a marine park, and is as fascinating as it is beautiful.

World renowned naturalist Ian Hutton has been researching and recording the flora and fauna of his island home for almost 35 years. Capella guests have opportunity to meet Ian and learn from his extraordinary knowledge when he joins the ritual of sunset drinks each Saturday. Ian is also curator of the Lord Howe Island Museum, housing innovative displays and artefacts on the island’s environment, community and history. The museum also offers weekly educational talks across a broad range of topics, offering visitors and residents a great forum to learn more about the island described by Sir David Attenborough as ‘so extraordinary, it is almost unbelievable…’.

A nascent Citizen Science program run by the Lord Howe Island Tourism Association offers field-work opportunities assisting in the species recovery of the world’s rarest insect as well as inviting participation in programs aiding critically endangered animals including the Lord Howe Island Phasmid and the Lord Howe Island Woodhen; all whilst enjoying the pristine natural environment of Lord Howe Island.

While it may seem a world away from care, Lord Howe Island is a quick two-hour flight from the east coast of Australia.

Capella’s Kentia Dreaming offer combines a bonus night (Stay 4 Pay 3) with a delicious barbecue lunch and wine kit and a Capella Spa credit valued at $50. What’s more, solo travellers enjoy all the benefits and pay only the twin share rate.
