Spring on Lord Howe Island brings new life, fresh energy – and for Capella Lodge, a whole new chapter. After a cool-season closure, they’ve reopened their island home and welcome the first guests back to experience Capella’s refreshed spaces, just in time for the beauty of spring and summer.
A fond farewell – after more than twenty years, dearly loved lodge managers, Libby Grant and Mark McKillip have embarked on a well-earned retirement. Since opening Capella’s doors in 2003 as the very first lodge in the Baillie Lodges collection, Libby and Mark have been the heart and soul of the guest experience. Their legacy is woven into the very fabric of the lodge, and Baillie Lodges is thrilled to share that they’ll return from time to time for special cameo appearances.
They have handed over the baton to new lodge managers, Bridie Bush and her husband Ryan Ward. Bridie and Ryan have arrived direct from the iconic ‘century young’ Huka Lodge in New Zealand and previously from Longitude 131˚ at Uluru-Kata Tjuta. They are excited to welcome guests to a newly refreshed Capella and to continue the tradition of heartfelt hospitality.
The lodge reopens this season with a glamover, transforming Gowers Terrace with its mesmerising views of the ocean and mountains. Highlights of the refresh include a new sunset lounge set by the horizon pool overlooking the lagoon, new dining banquette, stunning new furnishings from Tribu and Australian designer Robert Plumb and a sparkling new Capella light installation. For guests keen to explore, they’ve introduced a new fleet of 12 e-bikes along with mountain bikes, making it easier than ever to discover the wonders of this World Heritage-listed island. Guests will be able to enjoy a morning coffee at a new drinks ledge, positioned to take in mesmerising views of the lagoon, while elegant banquettes are ideal for watching the sun set with a drink in hand, making the most of the island’s perpetual spring.
From fresh spaces to new faces, there’s so much to look forward to at Capella Lodge this season.
