As another memorable guest season comes to a close, the team at Bullo River Station in the Northern Territory’s East Kimberley reflects on the extraordinary experiences enjoyed by visitors from around the world. From awe-inspiring wildlife encounters to sharing stories over lingering dinners beneath the stars, Bullo offers countless opportunities to explore the beauty and spirit of this remarkable landscape.
Bullo River Station’s Co-Owner, Julian Burt AM, shares his reflections on Bullo’s past, whilst looking towards its future.
“As custodians of this wonderful property, we have the privilege and responsibility of protecting its overwhelming beauty and immense landscapes. When Alexandra and I took stewardship, large parts of Bullo were suffering from historic overgrazing and significant ecological decline.
Over the past decade, we’ve focused on restoring harmony through renaturing – improving the health of the land for the birds, animals and ecosystems that depend on it. Seeing native species return to habitats they once abandoned has been profoundly rewarding for us and for the entire Bullo team. Just as importantly, a healthy landscape sustains us too, supporting our overall sense of physical and mental wellbeing.
This work underpins everything we do at the station. We want our guests to feel the same sense of peace we experience here – a chance to slow down, breathe deeply, and find stillness beneath endless skies. Bullo is a place where endorphins flow, where the sounds of wildlife replace the noise of the everyday, and where the scents and flavours of the land come through in the wild produce from our property and the dishes we prepare. Our aim is for every guest to leave feeling healthier, happier and smiling – inspired by what’s possible when nature is invited back to flourish.
Looking ahead, this same philosophy guides our plans as we prepare for an exciting next phase: the refurbishment of the guest wing and homestead, commencing in 2026 and reopening for the 2027 season.
A special thanks to our managers, Joe and Catherine, whose leadership and dedication continue to inspire us all. Their stewardship ensures the day-to-day operations of the station run seamlessly while our longer-term vision unfolds.
Bullo continues to evolve – for us, for our team, and for future generations. We’re excited to share more over the coming months as the next chapter takes shape.”
