Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure announce their top places for 2024 for “First Nations cultural immersions” and “travel bragging rights” with Kangaroo Island in the spotlight.
As part of their global guide to the Best Places to Go in 2024, Conde Nast Traveler has included Kangaroo Island as a must visit destination and Southern Ocean Lodge to stay and experience sustainable luxury and an abundance of wildlife.
“Kangaroo Island, Australia’s third largest island—often called the Australian Galapagos for its unique plant species and abundant wildlife like koalas, wallabies, maritime birds, and native sea lions—is an incredible success story. But it’s the reopening of the highly anticipated Southern Ocean Lodge in December 2023 that has signaled the island is back to life. The sustainability-slanted luxury hotel, which burned down in the wildfires, will reopen on the original 250-acre natural reserve overlooking a pristine beach as before, but with a few added comforts, like outdoor hot and cold pools and a four-bedroom family-size villa.”

“Another notable stay can be found on Kangaroo Island, where the famed Southern Ocean Lodge is slated to reopen in December after the disastrous bushfires of 2020.”
In The Kimberley, True North Adventure Cruises have also been included as “some of the world’s top cruise lines have caught on to all the upside and are racing to offer thrilling expedition-style itineraries that combine all this history with modern-day adventures, such as sightseeing flights by helicopter, paddling, Zodiac tours, scuba diving, and cultural excursions.”
