Gourmet Traveller has awarded Lake House in Daylesford the Best Hotel Dining accolade for 2025, recognising its enduring excellence in Australian cuisine. Offering beautiful, modern, seasonal food matched with local wines, Lake House Restaurant continues to excel.
Under the stewardship of owner and culinary director Alla Wolf-Tasker, the restaurant has evolved from its origins over four decades ago into a beacon of regional fine dining. The establishment is celebrated for its impeccable service, a thoughtfully curated wine list featuring storied labels, and a menu that showcases the best of seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The dining room, bathed in natural light and offering views of the surrounding gardens, provides an inviting and elegant setting for guests.
A significant aspect of Lake House’s culinary approach is its integration with Dairy Flat Farm, located less than 10 minutes away. This farm supplies much of the produce used in the restaurant, including a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, as well as 2200 pinot noir and chardonnay vines. This farm-to-table model allows for a vegetable-forward menu, with dishes like lemon-thyme gnocchi tossed with pine mushrooms and broad beans glistening with brown butter. Guests also have the opportunity to participate in farm tours and workshops, such as sourdough baking and beekeeping, further enhancing their connection to the food they enjoy.
