Bamurru Plains Unveils New Jabiru Retreat, a Luxurious Addition to its Accommodation Offering
Bamurru Plains, operated by Wild Bush Luxury – a renowned Australian tourism company specialising in immersive nature experiences, is thrilled to announce the opening of its latest accommodation offering, the Jabiru Retreat. Set amidst the captivating Mary River wetlands in the Top End of the Northern Territory, the Jabiru Retreat offers guests a private and luxurious “camp within a camp” experience, featuring two safari-style bungalows connected by a raised walkway leading to an exclusive-use plunge pool. Adjacent to the bungalows is an alfresco lounge and dining area, providing panoramic views of the lush plains teeming with abundant wildlife, including buffalo, agile wallabies, brumbies, and a diverse array of birdlife, including Magpie Geese and the retreat’s namesake, the Jabiru.
Designed to enhance guests’ comfort and immersion in the natural environment, the Jabiru Retreat at Bamurru Plains Safari Lodge accommodates four adults, with the option to accommodate an additional two children upon request, sleeping in swag beds, allowing a total capacity of six guests. This exquisite retreat is perfect for two couples traveling together, families with older children, multi-generational families, or small groups of friends seeking their own private sanctuary.
John O’Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of Experience Co, the parent company of Wild Bush Luxury, expressed his excitement, stating, “Jabiru Retreat at Bamurru Plains has been purposefully designed to provide guests with extraordinary immersive travel opportunities that connect them with the natural environment. It offers all the comforts and amenities of Bamurru Plains, where the captivating landscape takes centre stage, while providing the added luxury of more space and exclusivity for small groups seeking their own private retreat.”
Meticulously designed by Darwin-based Rossi Architects, the Jabiru Retreat captures the essence of a safari camp, featuring sustainably and ethically sourced furniture made from natural materials such as teak, rattan, and seagrass. To complement the aesthetics, Wild Bush Luxury collaborated with Inartisan, an Australian company founded by artist Emily Heysen, the great-granddaughter of renowned Australian landscape painter Sir Hans Heysen, to source the teak furniture for the expansive decks.
Each of the two spacious bungalows at Jabiru Retreat offers king-size split beds, an ensuite bathroom, and a generous outdoor lounge area. The safari bungalows are elevated on stilts to minimise their environmental impact. Overhead fans and ceiling-to-floor mesh walls on three sides allow natural breezes to cool the interiors and provide guests with captivating views and sounds of the surrounding bush.
The addition of Jabiru Retreat perfectly complements the existing accommodations at Bamurru Plains Safari Lodge, which include ten safari bungalows and one larger Kingfisher Suite overlooking the floodplains.
While ensuring complete privacy, Jabiru Retreat retains all the signature services provided by Wild Bush Luxury, including fully catered dining experiences and daily wilderness safari activities such as airboat safaris, open-top safari drives, crocodile-spotting river cruises, guided walks, and more.
Prices for Jabiru Retreat are based on four people and start at $6,160 per night from May 1st to June 30th and September 1st to October 31st. During the peak months of July and August, the price is $6,800 per night, fully inclusive.
The rates include accommodation, fully catered dining with hosted lodge dinners, all beverages, including wines and spirits, and twice-daily shared safari experiences.
