Australian Financial Review writer, Larry Schlesinger reports that Australians are planning longer summer getaways compared to previous years, leading to heightened new levels of demand for sought-after destinations. Referencing a survey of almost 1200 Australians commissioned by G’Day Group and quoting Executive Officer of Luxury Lodges of Australia, Penny Rafferty; “people are not just looking for a deal. They want safety and exclusivity of access”, the article shows three-quarters of people plan to go away over the summer holidays.
“Amid the desire for space and seclusion, boutique, high-end resorts are also in demand, said Penny Rafferty, executive officer of Luxury Lodges of Australia. She said qualia at Hamilton Island, Pretty Beach House on the Central Coast and Saffire Freycinet on Tasmania’s East Coast were some of its most sought after destinations.
“There is pent-up demand and rising bookings for lodges that offer relatively easy access to major population centres in states without border complications,” Ms Rafferty said.
“There is still some latent nervousness about crossing a state border to travel … but also a sense that a lot of people want to get together with friends and family and that they feel they deserve a really good holiday. Ms Rafferty said people wanted remote, “wow” locations and exclusivity in the post-lockdown period.” – Larry Schlesinger, Australian Financial Review.
