Longitude 131° Connects with Ernabella Arts
In a treasured collaboration between Longitude 131° and Ernabella Arts, the third Artists in Residence at the lodge will be during August 16-20, 2016.
The Ernabella community of aboriginal artists in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (APY Lands) in remote South Australia was established in 1948 from its origins as a mission craft room, and has evolved to become a thriving art community that has ensured the preservation of aboriginal art heritage and culture. Today, Ernabella Arts is one of Australia’s longest continuously running Aboriginal arts organisations.
Internationally acclaimed artist, Alison Milyika Carroll, along with two of her contemporaries will journey from the Pukatja homelands to our Dune House ‘studio’ to share their heritage and artworks. During the residency, the trio will collaborate on a joint piece, evolving to tell a traditional dreamtime story. This is a rare opportunity to watch the artists at work, talk to them about their craft and gain insight into the ancient culture so entwined with this landscape.
A unique Australian experience which promises to be rich, colourful and unforgettable.
