A destination for all seasons, Kangaroo Island’s climate is as dynamic as the scenery – from season to season the Island yields fresh perspectives. The Mediterranean climate produces warm summers and temperate winters. Daytime temperatures range from 25-35°C in summer to 14-18°C in winter.

Dress is smart casual at Southern Ocean Lodge. Comfortable walking shoes, spray jacket and a warm top are recommended year-round, with additional warm clothing options suggested for the cooler months. Hat, camera, sunscreen and a keen sense of adventure are a must!

  • Often regarded as a micro version of Australia, Kangaroo Island boasts a thriving sample of the nation’s diverse native landscapes, flora and fauna. Guests can expect to see kangaroos and koalas, echidnas and goannas, sea lions and long-nosed fur seals living in their natural environment, just as nature intended.
  • Kangaroo Island is renowned as a rich food bowl with small-scale producers delivering fresh, seasonal produce right to the lodge’s kitchen door for the daily changing menus. South Australia’s fine wines are showcased in the walk-in cellar, ready to be enjoyed overlooking the Southern Ocean.
  • Baillie Lodges founder Hayley has commissioned local artists to create fascinating artworks, ceramics and glassworks which are seen throughout the lounge areas and guest suites.
  • Southern Ocean Lodge offers all-inclusive luxury and a very ‘at home’ feel, with all dining, drinks and an itinerary of signature experiences of Kangaroo Island provided for guests.

By air/road: Flights from Adelaide Airport to Kingscote Airport on Kangaroo Island take 40 minutes’. QantasLink is the exclusive carrier and operates flights on most days. A minimum of 60 minutes is required between connecting interstate flights with other airlines. Private charter flights are available from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island Airport. Flights can be arranged to/from other cities on application.

Southern Ocean Lodge is a 50-minute drive from Kangaroo Island Airport. The lodge operates airport transfers for guests, which are included in the tariff and connect with scheduled flights to and from Kangaroo Island Airport. Private transfers between Southern Ocean Lodge and Kangaroo Island Airport may be arranged subject to availability for an additional charge.

By water/road: For self-drive excursions, SeaLink operates regular 45-minute ferry transfers between Cape Jervis on the mainland and Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Cape Jervis is a picturesque two-hour drive from Adelaide. Southern Ocean Lodge is a 90-minute drive from the ferry terminal in Penneshaw.

Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available throughout the lodge. Mobile/cell reception is limited to Telstra and most affiliated carriers on Kangaroo Island (however, calls can be made using Wi-Fi via various apps such as WhatsApp).
