Longitude 131° is located in the semi-arid climate of the Uluru region and makes for great travelling conditions. Warm, sunny days with minimal rainfall are the norm for much of the year, allowing enjoyment of the stunning desert landscapes and rock formations. Typical desert weather patterns make for reasonable fluctuations in temperature between day and night. During the summer months, average temperatures range from 35°C during the day to 18°C overnight. In the winter months, the average daytime temperature is 22°C and 0°C overnight.

On average Uluru-Kata Tjuta receives approximately 308mm (12 inches) of rain per year. Rainfall can occur at any time in the year. When it does, to see a waterfall cascade down Uluru is a rare and spectacular sight.

Solid walking shoes, comfortable casual clothes and some layers of warmer clothes if travelling in the cooler months are recommended. Hat and sunscreen are essential year round.

  • Connect with Country and the iconic Uluru, Kata Tjuta and the desert landscape on a sunrise guided walk.
  • Take a dip in the Dune Top’s plunge pool as the sun slips below the horizon, bathing the desert in ethereal light as the Belt of Venus rises in the evening sky.
  • After dinner under the stars at Table 131°, guests return to luxury tents where a swag is waiting on the verandah’s daybed, set with a nightcap under the dazzling southern sky.
  • Look out for a thorny devil scurrying up the red sand dunes around the lodge. The survival tactics of these tiny lizards includes head-to-toe camouflage and the ability to drink with its skin.

By air: Only three hours’ travel by air from most Australian capital cities, daily direct flights are available from Sydney, Cairns and Alice Springs to Ayers Rock Airport (AYQ); direct flights from Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Darwin operate on selected days. Alternatively, flights from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne connect via Alice Springs and onto Ayers Rock Airport. Longitude 131° operates complimentary luxury vehicle transfers connecting with all Ayers Rock Airport flights.

By road: For self-drive itineraries, Longitude 131° is located 445km or a 4-5 hour drive from Alice Springs. Please note, private vehicle access isn’t permitted at the property but parking is available at Sails in the Desert hotel located nearby at Ayers Rock Resort. Longitude 131° provides complimentary return transfers and prior arrangements are required.
