Lake House

Experiences

Along with the plentiful mineral springs, food and wine are consuming passions in Daylesford, and with good reason. There’s a plethora of experiences to be had in ‘meeting the locals’ be they brewers, cider or winemakers, farmers, smallgoods producers or even beekeepers. See what to do when at Lake House

The owner and culinary director of Lake House, Alla Wolf-Tasker AM is credited with the establishment and growth of Daylesford and surrounds as a premier food and wine destination.

Armed with a ‘Tasty Little Touring Map’, tour local villages visiting farm gates, markets, cellar doors or have Lake House design your own bespoke expedition. You'll be spoilt for choice.

The region was awarded Best Food Region in the delicious magazine Australian Produce Awards and hosts culinary travellers from all over the world.

Join one of Australia’s most celebrated bakers; Michael James for an intensive session in the bake house at Dairy Flat Farm; the sister property created by the team at Lake House. Not only will you dive deep and get hands-on in the bake house, but you’ll make and taste a range of delicious sourdough products including baguettes, loaves, Danish pastries and doughnuts. Of course, you’ll also take a selection home with you! Enjoy the beautiful farm outlook and take a peek at the private ornamental gardens, olive grove and productive farm which is usually exclusive for Dairy Flat Lodge guests.

The local region, justifiably referred to as Australia’s ‘Spa Country’ boasts the largest concentration of natural mineral springs in Australia as well as the largest number of holistic therapists.

Wellness is a way of life here, with an incredible variety of beauty and health treatments on offer.

The Lake House Spa flies the flag for indulgent treatments and pampering, its secluded location amongst tall trees, bubbling creeks and an outlook from its hot mineral spas over the lagoon and foreshore speaks of serenity and retreat.

An additional benefit of the abundant mineral springs are the very fertile volcanic soils of the area which now support the production of some of Australia’s most highly prized artisanal produce and premium wines.

There is a burgeoning local food culture here with regular farmer’s markets throughout the region and signs down every country lane, offering farm gate sales of organic or biodynamically grown berries, fruit and vegetables, chestnuts, honey and free range eggs.

In fact, you might find much of this award-winning produce and wines on top tables around Australia and the world, but it is only here that you are likely to rub shoulders with some of their producers. Sitting in the café at that next table could be one of Australia’s foremost wagyu producers or the maker of one of Australia’s most lauded pinot noirs. Meeting the locals can be a truly enriching experience.
