  • As part of a stay at Bullo, guests have six minutes per adult of helicopter time in an R44 (maximum of three guests). These minutes can be combined with your friends and family for a short scenic flight or they can be put towards a helicopter experience.

Helicopter touring experiences to swimming holes and rock art that is otherwise inaccessible is possible at an additional cost.

The team can supply air transfer recommendations, which are also an additional cost.

Bullo River Station is closed from October – March each year during the months of the wet season.

By April the wet season and extreme humidity have tapered off, the waterholes are full and the waterfalls are flowing. Migratory birds start to depart, but with the river systems full, barramundi are abundant for those interested in a spot of catch-and-release fishing.

June and July bring the peak of the dry season, with pleasantly warm temperatures. From August onwards, birdlife flocks to the few year-round waterholes available, which makes them easier to find for bird enthusiasts.

  • Dine under the stars with a dinner that pays tribute to the stockmen of old.
  • Guests are welcome to watch the action in the cattle yards during the seasonal muster. Or, head out on a 4WD station tour to learn about life on a working cattle station.
  • Take a scenic helicopter flight for a secluded swim at a remote waterfall.
  • Bullo is a nature lovers’ paradise. Since 2018, Australian Wildlife Conservancy has been compiling an inventory of species confirmed at the Station. To date, 222 bird, 47 mammal, 93 reptile, and 33 amphibian species have been sighted on the property.

By air: Bullo River Station is located 800km southwest of Darwin and 200km east of Kununurra, in a region referred to as the East Kimberley. A private charter plane to the homestead airstrip provides the best access from Darwin (90 minutes) or Kununurra (30 minutes). Air transfers are also available to/from a number of locations, e.g. El Questro, Bamurru Plains or Katherine. Helicopter transfers, which take approximately 120 minutes from Darwin or 40 minutes from Kununurra, can also be arranged. Transfers are not included in the nightly rate and are best managed direct by guests or their travel planners. Contact the Bullo team for a list of charter operators.

By road: If self-driving through the region, the Station is accessed from the Victoria Highway. The road is 4WD only, and contains several gates that must be opened and closed. The roads are not passable at certain times of the year. Like any outback driving, it pays to be prepared. Detailed driving directions and car rental guidance are provided to ensure guests are fully informed and have a safe journey.
