Australia is synonymous with water – endless surf beaches, wild seas, sparkling harbours, reef systems visible from space, ancient rivers, wildlife-rich floodplains and so much more. Our ‘island continent’, is the sixth largest country in the world and is the only one of those six completely surrounded by water. The Australian coastline covers some 25,000 kilometres. It is surrounded by many thousands of small fringing islands and numerous larger ones. Almost 40 per cent of the total coastline length of Australia is comprised of island coastlines.
Australia’s coastline, islands, reefs and water-influenced regions play an important role in defining the character of the nation and offer a myriad of adventures and experiences.
