Naturalist - TRUE NORTH

True North

The primary role of the naturalist is to enhance and add value to the guest’s experience by delivering information and guided excursions related to the terrestrial and marine ecosystems visited on TRUE NORTH cruises. This process should occur through:

  • Formal lectures on board the vessel
  • Naturalist, dependent on their field of expertise will lead walks & snorkel expeditions. Guided excursions in both the terrestrial and marine environment will include detailed briefings to guests where appropriate
  • Informal interactions with guests while on-board, especially at meal times, bar snacks and post social gatherings
  • Naturalist to be available in bar lounge at 5:30pm for interactive photo display and informal talks of day’s activities.
    Photographic logging of excursions
  • Naturalist, if required can deliver a brief interactive discussion on all aspects of pearling at 5:30pm on pearl night
  • Crew training in basic local plants and wildlife, history and culture and simplified principals in terrestrial and marine ecosystems
  • The Naturalist will be accountable to the Chief Officer and liaise with the Cruise Director as to guest’s specific interests, health restraints, and guest expectations

Qualifications Required: Certification Required ~ Coxswains Ticket (unrestricted – minimum) ~ STCW 95 Certificate of Safety Training ~ AMSA Medical ~ Maritime Identification Security Card (MISC) ~ Valid Passport ~ Australian Drivers licence, ~ Senior First Aid ~ Radio Operators Certificate ~ Kimberley guiding &/or Marine Biology / Science experience desirable ~ Passenger Ship Safety – Crowd Management Training
