Lord Howe Island’s protected marine environment makes an ideal home for both green sea turtles and hawksbills. Visitors to the island over the extended summer months will likely encounter a turtle or two from the comfort of a glass bottom boat, or face-to-mask when snorkelling!

A small number of expert turtle guides offer tours to their favourite places around the reef, offering an unforgettable experience to get up close, as well as to learn more about these magnificent creatures. There’s a chance too to wade or snorkel freestyle into the seagrass beds and rich corals from Settlement Beach where turtles like to graze when the tide is right.
