There are some magnificent National Parks in the Scenic Rim region, two of which are World Heritage listed. These include: Main Range National Park, Mt French National Park, Moogerah Peaks National Park, Mt Greville National Park. The sheer size of the caldera is breathtaking and shelters a huge diversity of rare flora and fauna, and subtropical rainforests within the rim of mountain ranges.
From Spicers Peak Lodge, join your guide in a walk around the lodge plateau rim, ambling the track around the Lodge Plateau rim, learning about the history of Cedar Mountain from its humble potato-growing days to the destination it is today. Spot wallabies, goannas and birdlife in the trees and above. Catch glimpses of the majestic neighbouring mountains of Main Range National Park, and don’t forget to look up for koalas tucked high in the eucalypt branches. Stop to take in the serenity from the impressive Northern Lookout and marvel at the silence broken only by the occasional scurry of wildlife.
Many Australian wildlife and rare and threatened species occupy these habitats. Spicers Peak Lodge guests have the opportunity to spot two different species of kangaroos, the common wallaroo and eastern grey, and three different species of wallabies including the endangered brush-tailed rock wallaby, the whiptail wallaby and red-necked wallaby. The vast array of mammals also includes koalas, long-nosed potoroo, long-nose bandicoots and brush-tailed phascogate. Rare and threatened species include the powerful owl, glossy black cockatoo, double-eyed fig parrot, sooty owl and the cascade tree frog.
