The beauty of the Daylesford region attracts many creative types – painters, glass-blowers, sculptors, actors and musicians and the lodge often has a few hand-selected artisan-produced works for acquisition. Based on Allan and Alla’s keen love for art, Lake House features the works of several prominent artists and designers and original artworks by late co-owner and painter Allan Wolf-Tasker adorn the walls.

Lake House’s late co founder and famed Australian artist spent a lifetime studying the Australian landscape. From aerial perspectives along the Great Ocean Road to a drought ridden Victorian countryside; he has always managed to find an optimistic view of Australia’s diverse terrain. He successfully delivered more than 70 exhibitions over his artistic career and published three books, Daylesford Landscapes, Waterways of Daylesford and The Far North.

His remaining works are showcased on site at Lake House and Dairy Flat Lodge, amongst the spaces he helped to create, build and decorate. In the coming months, a retrospective of his work will be showcased in Melbourne and a selection of his last works will be made available for sale. Alongside this, a new collection of small works on paper, previously scheduled for exhibition in 2025, will be released alongside a last book.

Wander the gardens at Lake House and you’ll discover bronze sculptures by Lawrence Winder and wood sculptures by local Miriam Porter. Lawrence trained in dance, art and education and has participated in over twenty shows at various galleries. His figurative sculptures displayed at Lake House are suitable for both the garden and inside spaces and vary from 1/6 to life size. Miriam draws inspiration from Lake House’s local personalities – cockatoos, magpies and possums for her sculptures in wood. Her studio is a short stroll from the property and she welcomes visitors by appointment.

Other artists with work featured at Lake House:

Bridget Bodenham – Ceramicist
Bridget Bodenham draws inspiration from her surroundings in and around Daylesford, Australia. Her functional and beautiful ceramics often incorporate textures, colors, and finishes that reflect local geography and architecture. Her latest series, for instance, decorates matte pottery with geometric sketches and gold foil, elements akin to the town’s earthiness and metallics.

Anthony Vanderzweep – Sculptor
Anthony Vanderzweep has a current library of work on display at the Lake House reception and Argyle Library. These beautifully sculptured pieces are available for viewing and purchasing. “I have developed a preference for sculpting animals. Their natural grace and athleticism make them an easy subject for me. Rather than just producing a study of nature, I seek to accentuate in a sculpture an animal’s strength or charm, often choosing to elongate limbs or exaggerate the body volume, for the purpose of making a work of art, of beauty, that will be valued for life.”

Anna Wili-Highfield
Anna Wili-Highfield’s sculpture ‘The Wolf’ is on display in The Waterfront Pavilion. Her sculptures are stitched together from archival cotton rag and explore the organic qualities and resistance of paper, generating a tension between the complex realism of form and the limitations and economy of the materials used. Her aim is to engineer a moment of contact with nature in a way that emphasises both the startling differences and similarities of human and animal forms and consciousness.

David Bromley
David Bromley’s artwork is displayed in The Spa. His works, typically capturing childhood innocence lost and found, and more recently exploring the female form, can themselves be found in major private and corporate collections in Hong Kong, Japan, South Africa, USA, Europe, and Australia. He has twice been named recently by Australian Art Collector magazine as one of Australia’s 50 most collectible artists.

Don Wreford
Don Wreford is one of Australia’s leading glass artists. Lake House displays a variety of his pieces in private rooms. He was most recently commissioned to produce a gift for the Danish community to present to Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.
