Writing for the Herald Sun, Rachael Martin rounds up five of Australia’s most luxurious hotel suites, from private plunge pools overlooking the ocean to in-room saunas with city skyline views. Two Luxury Lodges of Australia members make the list: Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island and qualia in the Whitsundays, Great Barrier Reef.

Stretched along the rugged clifftops of Kangaroo Island, Southern Ocean Lodge offers ocean and horizon views from every room, with Martin noting that each suite “exudes understated luxury”. She singles out the Osprey Suite, where guests can take in panoramic views from the sofa, the king-size bed or the freestanding bathtub, before cooling off in the private plunge pool on its own terrace.

At qualia, set within 30 acres of tropical gardens on Hamilton Island, Martin checks in to the Windward Pavilions, describing them as “a key to ultimate barefoot luxury”. Each comes with its own sundeck and plunge pool looking out over the Coral Sea and Whitsunday islands, while beyond the pavilion guests can enjoy the spa, guest library and private beach, with complimentary water sports for exploring the reef.
