In an immersive journey for TTG Media, Debbie Ward explores the enchantment of Southern Ocean Lodge and the natural wonders of Kangaroo Island. When it debuted in 2008, Southern Ocean Lodge revolutionized luxury accommodation, setting new standards as a founding member of Luxury Lodges of Australia. This iconic lodge perfectly embodies the ethos of blending breathtaking location, unparalleled luxury, and unforgettable experiences with outstanding hospitality, community engagement, and sustainability.

Southern Ocean Lodge boasts 25 guest suites that seamlessly blend into the coastline, offering panoramic views of the ocean and coastal wilderness. The lodge’s design prioritises environmental sustainability, incorporating enhanced water-capture systems, increased solar power generation, and strategic planting of fire-retardant native vegetation and natural buffers to protect and harmonise with the surrounding wilderness.

Debbie’s stay at Southern Ocean Lodge unveils the lodge’s commitment to luxury and sustainability, highlighting its role in redefining high-end accommodation and its profound connection to the stunning landscapes of Kangaroo Island.

“Sumptuous luxury is not the intention: keeping the view the star, the lodge has a pared-back style and muted palette…In my Flinders suite I dip my electronically controlled blinds to use the enormous walk-in rainfall shower and free-standing bath. After dinner, still wired with jetlag, I nibble koala-shaped turndown chocolate on the curved seating of my sunken lounge, listening to the sea crashing below, and finally become drowsy thanks to the EcoSmart fireplace which has been lit for me.”
