Constructed using environmentally friendly materials such as fire-retardant local stone, steel, double-glazed glass, and concrete, Southern Ocean Lodge relies predominantly on solar power. The lodge also harvests rainwater for both consumption and fire protection, and features a garden adorned with fire-retardant native plants.
“The highlights are still the same — and as spectacular as ever. I spend every hour I can soaking in the wild, end-of-the-earth atmosphere. At dawn I walk for hours: on cliffside paths, where osprey chicks flap on a rocktop nest and wedge-tailed eagles dive for fish; beside rock pools in which anemones are buffeted by waves and sandstone whipped into fairytale-like turrets.”
