Private Residence At Lizard Island

Newly opened in July, there is a new luxury offering on the northern-most resort island on the Great Barrier Reef.

Welcome The House at Lizard Island. Located on a private peninsula, surrounded by the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef, this striking new-build house sleeps six guests in three king suites, plus another two guests in a separate abode “The Cottage”. The House comes complete with its own private pool, stylish interiors, separate cottage, private vessel for excursions out on the water and much more. The inclusive rates include a private host to cater meals and personal requests, all delivered by the expert hospitality team at Lizard Island.

The House embodies all things authentically Australian, with distinctive design, panoramic views of the Coral Sea, exceptional food, and intuitive and impeccable service. Referred to as the ‘Bennelong Point of the Great Barrier Reef’, The House and its adjoining residence The Cottage, make up the estate. With total seclusion and privacy, it’s perfect for multi-generational travellers or special occasions that call for a truly memorable getaway.

Brisbane-based businessman and philanthropist Steve Wilson inherited the estate from his father John Wilson – an entrepreneur who built the first resort on Lizard Island in the 1970s – and Steve has since spent the past decades working closely with the Queensland government to build a property that pays its respects to the sacred land and its Aboriginal and European histories. The House stands as a monument to John Wilson’s dream that many others too could appreciate the singularity of Lizard Island’s beauty and relish in their proximity to nature.

Located 240 kilometres (150 miles) north of Cairns and 27 kilometres (17 miles) off the coast of northern Queensland, Lizard Island is unspoiled paradise, covered with over 1000 hectares of national parkland and surrounded by a protected marine park. The Estate itself is built on a secluded corner of the island, enveloped by three of the Island’s most beautiful white-sand beaches through which guests can access calm turquoise waters prime for snorkelling, diving, and fishing, while rocky tracks inland lead to picturesque lookouts and sustainable explorations.

  • AUD $4,000 per night for the 3 additional rooms
