Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley in the Greater Blue Mountains provides ongoing support and funding of university research projects into native fauna and animal protection. Current conservation projects include:
- Continued support of onsite wombat monitoring through usage of WomSAT, a citizen-science app created by the University of Western Sydney to educate and involve the community in the devastating impact of Sarcoptic mange on wombat populations. Research also undertaken on-site utilising drone technology to survey wombat burrows and macropod populations within Wolgan Valley.
- Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley’s ‘Wombat Warrior’ initiative, which has raised $4,600 towards funding research of Sarcoptic mange. Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley raises funds for Western Sydney University through sales of soft toy wombats and proceeds from Signature Nocturnal Wildlife Spotlighting Tour bookings.
- Financial support to University of Sydney student (and previous member of Field Guide team), Emma Spencer, to undertake a three-year PhD research investigating the dynamics and interactions between prey and predator species across several key biodiversity regions in Australia.
