Lizard Island is delighted to announce its 2018 Great Barrier Reef Expeditions following overwhelmingly positive feedback of the introductory tour in 2017. The Island will host three expeditions across 2018 in May, September and November, offering a unique experience for guests to Lizard Island to experience the reef like never before.
The partnership between Lizard Island, the Lizard Island Research Station and the Australian Museum invites guests to explore parts of the Great Barrier Reef not usually accessible by guests, all under the guidance of some of the nation’s leading experts on the history, current state and future of Australia’s most precious natural ecosystem.

23 – 26 November 2018: led by Dr Penny Berents, Senior Fellow in the Australian Museum Research Institute
Itinerary highlights will include a private charter from Cairns showcasing spectacular views over the reef, guided snorkeling sessions, tours of the Lizard Island research station, and hikes with the island’s very own naturalist Ben Carroll. During downtime, guests can relax in the comfort of the Saltwater Restaurant or Marlin Bar, enjoy privacy and seclusion on any one of the island’s 24 private beaches, pay a visit to the luxurious Essentia Day Spa, or partake in a variety of aquatic activities available on-island.
