In a treasured collaboration between Longitude 131° and Ernabella Arts, the fourth ‘Artists in Residence’ will take place November 15-19.

The Ernabella community of aboriginal artists in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (APY Lands) in remote South Australia was established in 1948 from its origins as a mission craft room, and has evolved to become a thriving art community that has ensured the preservation of aboriginal art heritage and culture. Today, Ernabella Arts is one of Australia’s longest continuously running Aboriginal arts organisations.

Senior artists, Amanda Kulyuru and Margaret Inyika Wells will journey from the Pukatja homelands toLongitude 131°’s  Dune House ‘studio’ to share their heritage and artworks. This is a rare opportunity to watch the artists at work, talk to them about their craft and gain insight into the ancient culture so entwined with this landscape.

The latest residency takes place just as Baillie Lodges has confirmed its plans to support an arts education program for the Ernabella community with a $100,000 donation over the next two years. The donated funds will offer improved operational support, enable the community to employ a dedicated ceramics technician to supply ceramics for the artists and contribute to further education and training for community members of all ages.
