Top End / Kakadu

The Top End of the Northern Territory is known for its tropical weather, rich Aboriginal cultures, national parks and laid-back lifestyle. It is home to an eclectic mix of cultures whose outdoor lifestyle is complemented by brilliant sunsets, fantastic fishing and a colourful calendar of outdoor events.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Limilngan people, the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Bamurru Plains stands. In sharing elements of their history, heritage and culture we acknowledge the Limilngan people and all Mary River, Kakadu and Arnhem Land Aboriginal Communities and Traditional Custodians as the original and ongoing caretakers to land, sea and community.

Top End / Kakadu Destination

WETLAND WILDERNESS

On the edge of the Timor and Arafura Seas and closer to the islands of Indonesia than much of Australia, the Top End is a region of climatic extremes, of spectacular storm skies and an annual cycle of environmental rebirth.

Top End / Kakadu Experiences

Connect with place

Built amongst the fringing woodland on the edge of the Mary River floodplain, Bamurru Plains is the perfect spot from which to explore this country. Skimming across the floodplains on an airboat is one of the best ways to see the birdlife that congregates here.

Each of the twelve ensuite safari bungalows at Bamurru Plains is designed to immerse guests in the sights and sounds of the wetland surrounds, with uninterrupted views across the floodplains from sunrise to sunset from the comfort of the bed.

Getting there

LOCATION

The Top End of northern Australia is the second northernmost point on the continent. It covers a rather vaguely-defined area of around 400,000 square kilometres behind the northern coast from the Northern Territory capital of Darwin across to Arnhem Land with the Indian Ocean on the west, the Arafura Sea to the north, and the Gulf of Carpentaria to the east, and with the almost waterless semi-arid interior of Australia to the south, beyond the huge Kakadu National Park.

Built amongst the fringing woodland on the edge of the Mary River floodplain, Bamurru Plains is the perfect spot from which to explore this country.
