The climate in the Daintree region is truly tropical with each season offering a different and unique experience. The dry season, roughly May to October, offers warm days and cool nights with low humidity. The wet season spans November to April and is generally when the heavens open releasing torrential rain, with high humidity and higher temperatures throughout the day and overnight.

The dress code is relaxed at Silky Oaks Lodge. Easy to wear, resort style clothing for daytime and smart casual attire for evening is recommended. Comfortable, solid footwear for rainforest walks is essential as is a hat and sunscreen.

  • Discover the sights and sounds of the rainforest with a hike along the Fig Tree Rapids trail. Plunge into the freshwater billabong for a feeling of refreshment only Mother Nature can offer.
  • Accessed via the nearby town of Port Douglas, guests can book local tours to explore the Great Barrier Reef, from cruising aboard a luxury catamaran to snorkelling and diving among the kaleidoscopic colour of fish and coral.
  • Enjoy an evening drink in the cool open air of the cantilevered jungle perch – perhaps a lychee martini blended with Baillies 9 gin, or a ginger mojito made with local Mt Uncle Iridium rum.

By air: Silky Oaks Lodge is 70 minute drive north of Cairns Airport, with direct daily flights to Cairns from major capital cities. Private vehicle transfers between Silky Oaks Lodge and Cairns Airport or nearby Port Douglas may be arranged with a preferred operator. Helicopter transfers are also available from Cairns Airport to the Silky Oaks helipad, taking 20 minutes’ to reach the lodge.

By road: For self-driving itineraries, Silky Oaks Lodge is a 20-minute drive from Port Douglas and 70-minute drive from Cairns.
