True North Adventure Cruises time their voyage departure dates to make the most of the best seasonal conditions in each region.

In summer, True North ventures south to the temperate climate in Sydney and southern Australia where the days are warm and the nights refreshing. True North II heads to the Great Barrier Reef early in summer and then joins True North in Sydney to bring in the New Year.

In autumn, True North and True North II head west to explore the wonders of Western Australia’s coastline before heading north to the Kimberley region, enjoying perhaps some of Australia’s most perfect weather along the way. Days are warm with low humidity and the nights are mild. Winds are light and the skies are forever blue.

Winter is dry season in the Kimberley and is characterised by clear blue skies, easterly winds and balmy days with some chilly nights. The weather is very stable, and both True North and True North II have multiple voyages scheduled in winter, making the most of the ideal conditions to experience the wonders of the region.

Spring brings the onset of the wet season in the Kimberley. Temperatures and humidity increase but days are still pleasant and mostly dry throughout September when both True North and True North II visit the spectacular Rowley Shoals.

  • The best thing about being on True North or True North II is being able to choose your own adventure. Every trip is different.
  • One of Australia’s best kept secrets, the Rowley Shoals, consisting of three shelf atolls, situated about 260km west of Broome on the northwest Australian coast.
  • Privileged access to rarely seen examples of both Wandjina and Gwion Gwion rock art via a guided walk or dedicated helicopter flight.
  • A unique heli-picnic is featured on all Kimberley Wilderness itineraries, a mesmerising experience in a stunningly remote location, with picture-perfect waterfall, only accessible by helicopter.

True North Adventure Cruises is based in Broome in Western Australia.

True North’s Kimberley Wilderness Adventure cruises depart from Broome or Wyndham depending on the itinerary. Local airport or accommodation transfers to and from the vessel are included.

Other cruises with True North depart from several capital cities and regional centres. Major carriers including Qantas and Virgin provide convenient access to all departure points.

There is internet access, and WiFi coverage onboard, however as this is accessed via ship’s satellite – which is quite a bit more complicated than accessing a satellite from a land-based or stationary position – there is a nominal charge for use. Mobile phone coverage depends on where the ship is, but in remote areas, is very limited.

Yes. True North and True North II welcome families with children three years and over, however parents need to be aware that under maritime regulations all passengers are considered ‘berthed passengers’ and children are not permitted to travel as ‘extras’. Guests wishing to book a child under the age of 12 years are also advised that there are no dedicated child minding facilities on board nor are crew available to engage in child minding. Adults travelling with children must accept full responsibility for their supervision. Children 12 years and older are deemed adults, therefore must occupy a normal passenger berth and full cruise fare applies.
