Globally celebrated and multi-award winning, Baillie Lodges flagship property Southern Ocean Lodge sits lightly on the wildly beautiful southwest coast of South Australia’s Kangaroo Island.
With contemporary architectural design, organic finishes and signature curved lines making the most of the dramatic oceanfront location, Southern Ocean Lodge blends effortlessly with its surrounds of coastal heath. Floor-to-ceiling windows extend panoramic views of white-sand beaches and rolling wilderness, with the ever changing Southern Ocean stretching to the horizon below.
The Great Room takes centre stage on the island’s limestone cliffs, home to the restaurant, bar and lounge as well as an outdoor terrace for dining, lounging and with a wet-edge pool. The Southern Spa opens to a restful wilderness vista and features three treatment rooms, a gym, sauna and hot and cold plunge pools.

The lodge appears to float along its secluded clifftop setting, providing open views of the Southern Ocean and rolling coastal wilderness from each of its twenty-five suites.
Signature design elements, such as limestone floors and blackwood feature walls, are complemented by custom-designed furnishings and works commissioned from South Australian artists. Together, these elements offer private house seats for the natural theatre of this dramatic landscape.
Sink into the luxurious Flinders Suite, anchored by a sunken lounge complete with limestone-clad Eco-Smart fireplace set down from the sleeping platform and allowing spectacular end-of-the-bed ocean views. The two-bedroom Remarkable Suite is perfect for friends or families with outdoor terrace and plunge pool and the amphitheatre-shaped Osprey Suite showcases 270º views and is perfect for a special occasion.
Designed as an exclusive owner’s residence, the ultra-premium Baillie Pavilion crowns the clifftop to offer sweeping panoramas of sky and sea. Offering a variable configuration, the Baillie Pavilion is ideal for couples and friends or multi-generational families travelling together. The east wing of the pavilion offers an entertainer’s lounge framed by floor-to-ceiling glass, warmed by an EcoSmart fireplace. Two bedrooms with magnificent sea views feature king Baillie Beds and adjacent ensuite bathrooms. Outside on the terrace, a plunge pool invites a refreshing dip in between adventures or under the stars at night. The western wing features a stunning central lounge set around a dramatic suspended fireplace. Two bedrooms offer king Baillie Beds overlooking the ever-changing Southern Ocean, leading to spacious ensuite bathrooms, while outdoors on the expansive terrace, an infinity-edge pool reaches out to the horizon for a personal nature-meets-luxury experience.
