There’s over 200km of terrain to explore in the outback wilderness landscape of The Kimberley at El Questro Homestead.
Set out on one of the many hiking trails and if you’re lucky, walk uninterrupted for hours, taking in the rugged sandstone gorges and idyllic waterfalls all to yourself. On the steep outcrop of Saddleback Ridge, the climb is rewarded with a remarkable 360-degree view. Take a well-deserved swim at El Questro Gorge at the end of your adventure or stay a while in the natural thermal waters of Zebedee Springs, set at the base of sheer cliffs and surrounded by lush vegetation of Livistona palms.
If you’d prefer a leisurely stroll, head out from the station along the Pentecost River. Here you’ll be able to wander through the region’s natural flora, spotting the local wildlife as you go until you come across a collection of safe, shallow swimming holes. Pack a picnic lunch to pause along the way and soak in the scenery.
A morning of bush culture is the best way to immerse yourself in the fascinating history of The Kimberley. The rich diversity of the flora on El Questro has long provided remedies, medicines and sustenance for the Aboriginal people and the Rangers are adept and finding the best of what is currently in season. The delightful modern day history of the cattle property and the characters that formed El Questro’s rich past, provide more recent tales for the Rangers to spin.
